what it is all about
Certification details
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the most widely recognized and accepted English language proficiency tests globally. It is designed to assess the language skills of non-native English speakers who wish to study, work, or immigrate to English-speaking countries. Here is some key information about the IELTS certification:
1. Types of IELTS Tests:
IELTS Academic: This test is typically required for admission to universities and other higher education institutions. It assesses your English language proficiency in an academic context and evaluates your ability to understand and express ideas in complex academic English.
IELTS General Training: This test is often used for immigration purposes, job applications, and vocational training. It focuses on everyday communication skills in a workplace or social context.
2. Test Sections:
The IELTS test consists of four main sections:
Listening: This section evaluates your ability to understand spoken English in various contexts, such as lectures, conversations, and interviews.
Reading: You will be assessed on your reading comprehension skills by reading and answering questions about a variety of texts, including newspapers, magazines, and academic papers.
Writing: The writing section requires you to complete two tasks. In the Academic test, you need to describe visual information and write an essay, while in the General Training test, you write a letter and an essay.
Speaking: The speaking test assesses your ability to communicate verbally in English. It involves a face-to-face interview with an examiner and includes various speaking tasks.
3. Scoring:
IELTS scores are reported on a nine-band scale, with each band corresponding to a level of English proficiency. The overall band score is an average of the scores from the four sections. Higher band scores indicate a higher level of proficiency. Different organizations and institutions have specific score requirements for admission or employment, so it’s important to check their individual requirements.
4. Validity:
IELTS scores are generally valid for two years from the date of the test. After this period, your scores may not be accepted by institutions or organizations.
